CuriousWorks, Melbourne Style

Greetings from Melbourne, Curious folk. Shakthi and Aimee reporting here. We’re in Melbourne developing an animated projection of Federation Square as if it is underwater, to be projected onto the city icon itself during the Melbourne Fringe and Urban Screens Festivals. It’s called ‘Overflow’.
Here’s the important details:
6:30pm, Thursday September 25th - Overflow launches at Federation Square, 6:30pm
6-8pm, Saturday September 27th - Migrant Project Film Screening and ASI concert at Horse Bazaar
Aimee has been in Melbourne for three weeks now, madly drawing away and assembling 16, short animated clips of life in Melbourne post-submersion. Shakthi has the post-production gloves on and is slowly turning the clips into a short film, ready for projection.
There are people trapped underground, caught on CCTV cameras, never to come out; others continue to shop by scuba-diving from boats; makeshift rafts hold collections of people adapting themselves to a new life at sea. These are some snippets from the work…

Opening night for the projection is September 25th - and it’s going to a big party. There’ll be a bathtub on site, enabling passers-by to jump in and see themselves floating amongst Melbourne’s skyscrapers in the projection; CuriousWorks’ digital spray can will be available for the public to spray their spontaneous light works; and of course the work itself will be premiered.
Since we were going to be in Melbourne anyway, we couldn’t resist bringing other CuriousWorks projects to this beautiful town.
On September 27th, we’re hosting a Curious double-whammy at Horse Bazaar: the premiere of CuriousWorks’ first feature film, ‘This City is a Body: The Migrant Project Film’ and ASI’s first-ever full audiovisual concert, featuring songs off their debut album ‘The Waiting Turned..’
So if you’re reading this and you’re from Melbourne-town (we know you’re out there, Google Analytics tells us so) please come along on the 25th and 27th to soak up the Curious delights and say hello!
