Redfern - SSYS Workshop 4

Our run at South Sydney Youth Services ended today in a flurry of animation, projections and pizza!

The chill wind and impending rain kept us inside this week, where we introduced the realm of fun known as stop-motion animation.

Sharnay and Natasha played with props and toys to create their own strange and amusing animations. Sharnay worked on her own action piece entitled “The Death of Mario” where she also recorded her own dramatic voice-over!

Ricko, a local boy with a passion for illustration, spent the workshop creating his own animations as he sketched. After showing him how to setup the video camera and operate iStopmotion, Ricko worked independently for for over an hour creating a fantastic animation of his sketches taking shape, combining people, household objects, boats, bike parts and natural landscapes in fascinating illustrations.

We ended the workshop with a bit of a party, with local young people and the staff eating pizza and watching the video pieces from the last four workshops projected on the wall. The screening included behind-the-scenes footage of the first time media-makers, and it was a treat to see this alongside the ten short videos demonstrating how much the group had done in such a short time. A really great screening!

Thanks to everyone who participated and all the staff at South Sydney Youth Services, we hope to see you again soon!
