Liverpool - Refill Workshops 5 & 6
A double whopper - 4 periods with Shakthi, Aimee and myself.
We spent the first hour focusing on more drama games, playing the magic item game which eventually morphed into a Danoz Direct style improvised infomercial. Aimee then led the group through further games including “Mum can I have $20?” and another game where you had to try to convince someone to give you their seat. This last game produced some excellent performances from many of the kids, everyone wanting to be involved. Throughout this first session every student also had an opportunity to film their fellow students performing. By now almost everyone is comfortable using a video camera and tripod, and their camerawork has certainly improved since their last exercise weeks ago.
In the second half of the session we focussed on developing the technologies the kids would make for their end of year exhibition. We broke into groups and began working on their own Mood Boards, large pieces of cardboard featuring magazine cut-outs for inspiration, colour palettes, potential titles, group member avatars and illustrations of their potential works! These mood boards look excellent and will provide sound jumping boards for further development. Kudos to the kids!
And finally we ended the session in groups - the girls making more sketches for their sound sculptures, the year 11 boys designing their sound installation and the younger boys playing with split-screen and reverse video effects to start creating video content for the final works. The boys really got into this, and started coming up with novel ideas by the end.
I’m exhausted thinking back on it - a very long, fun and fruitful session!
