Our workshop series begins

CuriousWorks begins it’s workshop series at Miller Technology High School next week and we’re looking forward to working with all the kids in the Refill program. We’re planning on applying some of the new technologies we’ve developed from our Casula Powerhouse residency and handing them over to the students to see where they want to take them. What we’d like to do is try to translate the environment that we had at Casula into the art classroom at Miller Tech. Hopefully the worked we’ve made will be the seed and stimulas for some of the students projects. We can only wait and see!

It’s probably a good time to mention the workshop series at South Sydney Youth Services which looks like it will be going ahead in June. These workshops are taking place at the skate park in Waterloo (just down Elizabeth St from our new office) and Elias has threatened to take up skateboarding much to the dismay and concern of others in the office. I promise to provide photographic evidence as soon as it comes to hand.

And then theres Pilbara in mid July… but thats another post.

Refill program

The Refill project aims to assist in the development of the career opportunities of young Indigenous and Arabic people aged between 12 and 15 years of age and living in the 2168 Liverpool area by developing their job prospects and enhancing their life’s experience through a mentoring project. By creating teams of both mentor and emerging artists who engage in an arts lead practise that produces tangible social outcomes including employment, further education and health whilst also recognising the unique potential and makeup of the diverse community. This includes the presentation of music projects, visual arts and craft and multimedia staged over a three-year period from 2006-2009 as part of an enhanced and integrated program of Casula Powerhouse,

The program has been initiated by Casula Powerhouse through the Cultural Development Network Inc. Generations national program, in which five Councils are nurturing active participation within their communities through the arts, in response to major local challenges.
